bats--enlarged holes

When your homemade bats start wiggling on the wheel, the holes have
become enlarged. Fill the holes with JB Weld. After it's set, sand
smooth. Then redrill holes in the same filled hole, or another place on
the bat. I like to keep a pattern of the wheel head, holes marked, on
hand. In school we also used nylon bat pins instead of metal. It
reduced the wear on the bat holes. We also gave every bat two to three
soaks in Thompson's Water
Seal before using.
