One book I rather like is Christine Rowe's "The Potter's Workbook"
published in 1992 by B.T. Batsford Ltd, 4 Fitzhardinge St., London, W1H
0AH, [ISBN 0 71 34 6619 7] subtitled (?) "A practical pottery course-basic
and more advanced techniques explained with a variety of exercises and
projects." There's a lot about design and working from found objects in it,
along with all the ususal. 96 pages (including index and (short) list of
suppliers and museums in Britain and America. The ideas are what makes it
good. Well-illustrated with colour plates of pieces and with line drawings.
Another book which covers handbuilding in some detail (black and white
photos only) is Elsbeth Woody's "Handbuilding Ceramic Forms" (pub 1978 by
Farrar Straus Giroux, New York, USA, and simultaneously in Canada by
McGraw-Hill Ryerson Ltd, Toronto ) . It doesn't seem to have an ISBN number
as such, but does have TT920.W65 1978 733.1'4 78-9017 if that
helps.
It has 225 pages including a glossary of terms, biographical note and some
clay-body and glaze recipes. It has good clear photos illustrating
handbuilding techniques including some for larger forms and a section on
handbuilding with wheel thrown forms.
I imagine any good bookstore could get a lead on these if the publishers
are not in existence to contact.
Hope this helps.
Maridel (still playing with glossy black Cone 6 glazes... will update later)

I have Kathy Triplett's 'Handbuilt Ceramics'...find it to be very helpful and
full of interesting ideas. It's published by LArk Books out of Asheville, NC.
She also goes into glazing and firing, and the photography is colorful and
well done. Well worth the money.

There are lots of these at http://axner.com
Just search for "hand building" and you can buy on line at prices
better than Amazon or B&N.
