...Vice President of Profits (VPP)...breaking the cones...
Nice piece of corporate scenario setting John. All too familiar, at
least in its cynicism. Good read!
To be fair though, I'd like to pass on some actual info. Orton is a
non-profit foundation. There is no VPP because there is no P of the
2nd kind. Like all of us guys, they have to cover operating
expenses but they don't have to make Profit. In fact, they are
explicitly not allowed to make profit which is howcum they get to
put money into R&D things, like inventing kiln vents for the rest of
us. (Putting money into R&D is how young companies hide what would
otherwise be profit and can look innocent about requests from The
Market to pay dividends. "What profits?")
And the pesky cones. They are probably much easier to stamp out in
pairs (you should HEAR those presses ramming the 9% moisture powder
into the dies). More structurally sound for handling and shipping.
Keeps YOUR cost down definitely to make them that way.
I had trouble separating cones when first faced with the chore.
Same as I do with cutting glass. For the same reason probably. If
you approach either timidly, you'll mess up for sure.
Now I put the cones along the very edge of a sharp edged table and
just DO IT. Haven't lost one in awhile.

Jan

Hi All!
Jan gave her trick for separating cones in a post this morning. Put the
seam on the edge of a sharp-edged table and press.
Wow does it ever work great! I used the edge of our Brent slab roller. The
cones snapped right apart with nary a crumble. Thanks Janet!
Erin.
