I am currently "negociating" to buy a 4.3 cu ft top loading three phase
electric kiln from a company in England. (Single phase is impossible at my
house because I couldn't do a firing without having to turn off the central
a/c system and that's just not possible for ten months out of the year in
Dubai.) I requested that the kiln have a Dawson kiln sitter and limit timer
and a wall mounted controller that I can detach from the kiln and bring
inside from May to October when things really heat up - over 40C and up to
100% humidity - and just use the kiln sitter and timer during the hot
season. Seemed a wise precaution and a fairly straightforward thing to do.
Well, the company came back with a quote that contained Pound Sterling 249
($400)in extra charges for special wiring. I called them up and they
"softened the blow" (their words) and gave me a 5% discount- that's a great
big 75 pounds ($120). They still insist that the kiln I want is a special
one off and needs "special electrical data, inter-wiring (design, materials
and labour content)." By the way, this company sells the kiln I want with a
kiln sitter/limit timer so that's not special to them. They also sell their
controller as a separate unit.
Am I being snowed here or what?
Thanks in advance for any insight into this.

again and is a reasonable 30C.
