I was leafing through the new Pottery Making Illustrated and I saw a
picture of David Hendley's extruded lotion dispensers. Wow! Nice work
David. I was wondering if you would care to explain how you achieve
the swirling engraver mark designs. Are those leaves and flowers
painted on with stain or are they raised with slip? At any rate, I had
not seen David's work before and I was very impressed.

Thank you Peter. That was the picture that was accidently
left out of the article showing how to make the dies,
in the previous issue of P. M. I.
The 'swirling engraver mark designs' are actual texture
impressed into the clay and then, after bisque firing,
accentuated with an applied and wiped oxide wash.
The designs are from some cool English embossed
wallpaper that I found.
