I just bought a Skutt 1018 with a controller. I have never had the
opportunity to do any of my own firing. I have at least three questions
before I begin:
1. Do I need to worry about my paperbacks I have temporarily stored in
the garage about four feet from the kiln? (Common sense tells me to move
them.)
2. I have heard you should first fire your kiln to the max cone you will
ever fire to. The manual says the first firing should be to Cone 04.
Should I follow the manual-or is that just an example?
3. When we inserted the thermocouple 1 1/2" into the kiln, part is
sticking out. They supplied insulation to cover this. The insulation is
too long. I assume we are supposed to cut it to size. Is this correct?
Thank you in advance for your help.
