kiln controller & tile setters

1. I have a Crusador 27" kiln which I have had for about 20yrs but it
has not been fired more than 30-40 times. It has a kiln sitter but I
would like to modernize it and get a kiln controller. There is one
advertised (page 13 latest, May 99 issue, of CM) by Orton that is an
upgrade for a Kiln sitter. Has anyone had any experience with upgrading

to a controller. I plan to do many more firings in the future and would

like the convenience of a kiln controller. I would appreciate your
input.

2. Tile setters. There are several different styles tile setters
advertised.
Laguna has the Staking tile holder which can be used for any size
tile as they can move to accommodate the size.
Laguna also has a tile rack which looks more open and possible
easier to load.
Baily & Great Lakes have vertical tile setters. Since I plan to
fire already glazed tiles I wonder if the glaze would
run if held vertically.
Axner shows tile setters for 6" tile with a 10 piece capacity. They

don't indicate whether they have a 8"size
setter. They also have a high alumina setter which
stacks on stilts.

I would love to hear some of your experiences with the different
tile kiln holders. They are not inexpensive
and I would like to know the experience of those who have used them.

Thank you all for your input. I hope that you are all
having as wonderful a day as I am having. The weather in Lexington, KY
is superb and everything is in bloom and the air spells delicious.

I have the Laguna stacking tile setters, the little triangular pieces that
fit under each corner. They are not difficult to use and are more versatile
since you can use them for any size tile and, depending on the diameter of
your kiln, make 2 or 3 stacks.
