You folks are wonderful! Thanks for all the input "Re: need help with
chemistry"!

Now I have another quanundrum ...I am blessed with two wheels ...know
how to throw but prefer handbuilding ..I realize this is somewhat of a
judgment call, but .. would I be any less a potter for focusing on
handbuilding?

I am probably one of those folks that irk the ones who are trying to
make a living with their art, but I have no intention of becoming "pro".
I just want to do craft shows and "support my habit"! I am addicted to
clay!!! If this seems a trivial issue and you guys want to throw me out
(no pun intended) I understand.

Margo, struggling with an issue when I should be out playing in the mud.

I would hazard a guess that many more pots are made without a potters
wheel than are made with with them. Method of the making is not as
important to most of us on the list as the fact that we share the love of
the making. Follow your own vision. Be very distrustful of anyone
telling you NOT to do something because it "will not work". Think hard
about what the people on the list tell you is dangerous. Ask questions
about what you have done rather than what you should do. Asking questions
about where to begin and how to proceed with what you are doing are valid,
but, then ask questions about the results that you get and keep in mind
that there are many ways to do just about anything. Experiment. Have
fun. GET GOOEY.

Why are you struggling ,silly!! I've been working in clay for many
years--handbuilding the whole time--I couldn't throw worth a shi__ when I
started--almost gave it up. My dear instructor then told me--you don't have
to throw to be a potter,Pam.It opened up a whole new world to me.Now almost
15 years later I finally got back on the wheel, and I'm doing great!! From
the handbuilding(which is my true love) my hands gained an understanding of
clay that is different from what you get on the wheel. From a happy
"bi-potter!!
