If you don't want to read some proud statements then hit the D key now. It's
only taken 4 months but last night I turned on the breaker and turned out the
lights and watched as the old kiln glowed to life, and oh what a feeling!
Joy at seeing all my work bring this old thing to life, the electrical buzz
was music to my ears. Can't wait to load and fire it, hopefully this
weekend. A local potter gave me the kiln, he was given the kiln from another
potter, so it's a hand me down. It's an L&L K230 manufactured according to
the ser# in 1972. It shows it age, but is still pretty sound, some of the
bricks and channels need some loving. I have rewired it, replaced a switch,
and put on a kiln sitter. I got my brother an electrician to help run the
service to it. It's now my baby, and I can't wait to learn it's personality.
All kilns have a personality. Little things that make the make everything
turn out. Only put big things here, this glaze there, fire the bottom/top a
little longer. Kind of glad I don't have an electronic brain thinking for me
now. The far extreme in my mind is the wood kiln, so many variables, ohhhh
maybe one day. For now I'll turn my switches and learn my lessons.
