ron roy clear

(There will soon be a Ron Roy family of glazes!!)

I started to revise a clear we had (whose expansion was too high for some
clays) then submitted it to Ron Roy. He fixed it further, and we've tried
his revisions now. It seems to be nice and clear at Cone 6 and colours are
bright and true - as far as I've seen. I don't have any red type
underglazes known to work anyway, so this still needs to be checked. It
passed the vinegar test nicely. (It has more silica and less boron than our
original recipe so doesn't tolerate the cool spots in the kiln as well, but
for true cone 6's, it seems very good.)

Am submitting this to the list for people to look at and try if they wish.
(Would be interested in hearing about the red underglazes.)

Thanks Autumn,
Now you know how far behind I am - let me know if it needs some work to
make it better - R

Can't tell if it is Autumn or Roy asking, but Duncan's Coral Red stays
bright at Cone 6, and I think even at 10. I've used it under various
transparent glazes.
