Someone told me a story about using table salt and clay to produce an
egyptian paste effect in an electric kiln. The story ends with: And then
all of the elements were ruined.
Salt in an electric kiln is obviously a bad idea, but what about soda ash
in a glaze? Is soda ash volatile?

Joshua - I once asked the same qn. and a local kiln builder said
DON'T try it unless you put the pot in a saggar -- again for element
