Hi Merrilee:
Before I give you a good copper raku glaze, let me talk a minute
about a previous topic: durable raku glazes.
Tom Buck responded to an earlier post of mine and referred me to his
article on the net about making durable glazes that won't fade over
time. It is a wonderful article that provides some reworked recipes for
some old raku glazes. It is located at:
www.digitalfire.com/education/glaze/buckraku.htm
I am in the midst of testing those glazes and having wonderful
results, especially with his revision of Copper 80/20, which provides
lots of penny copper color. Here's the recipe:
Copper 80-20 (Tom Buck's #2 revision)
Gerstley borate 73
Neph syenite 13.5
Flint 13.5
Copper carbonate 10
Red iron oxide 5
There are other revisions of this glaze and other glazes at this
site. Thanks again to Tom Buck for this article.
