if i lived in portland, man oh, man....i would buy a skutt in a heart/beat.
it would be like buying clay in nova scotia and shipping it to portland
to make pots.
makes no sense.
buy local.

Well maybe things have changed but I didn't buy a Skutt even though I
live only 3 1/2 hours away via the gorgeous Columbia River Gorge. Among
other reasons,
I got really ticked at Skutts pricing structure. Something is wrong,
IMO, when the least expensive way for me to buy one is to order it from
Florida where it would be shipped clear across the country and back.
Couldn't even order it from FL and arrange to pick it up at the factory.
So what incentive is there to support "local" Skutt, if they price
things so "local" Georgies or Clay Art are at such a price disadvantage?

I bought a Crucible from Seattle Pottery Supply (also 3 1/2 hours away)
which has 3" brick all around but they didn't shrink the inside
dimensions the way Skutt does. Picked it up myself after a minor delay
due to snow on Snoqualmie Pass. Still satisfied with it.

Not to say Skutt doesn't make good kilns or have good people working for
them, 'cus they do.
