Hi Anne,
It's maybe not as intriguing as it sounds! The kiln in question is a 25 cu
ft LPG, down-draft, four burner fibre job, made in Auckland by Adrian
Cotter, a kiln manufacturer now retired, I believe. The design is very
good, the interior has cubic dimensions (approx 1metre X 1 metre ) and the
walls being lined with pleated hotface ceramic fibre (resisting fissuring
with age). The burners are located conventionally vertically under the
bottom four corners. A nice feature are single-phase coiled 240 volt
electric elements, surrounding each burner port. This allows gentle
pre-heating up to about 200 degrees and provides some flameout protection
once the burners are lit.
The cubic, four burner, down-draft design seems to approach perfection for
even heat distribution. But I am open to being corrected!
