Hi Michelle -
Skutt makes a fine kiln. Sturdy and dependable. My 1227 is a real workhorse.
Skutt has been very generous to the Oregon Potters Association, too -- good
peoples. Support your local folks!

Hi Julie,
I live in Portland and it would make sense to buy a skutt, but I was =
wondering
at your comment =22settle for a skutt=22...
I also want to get the best for my money and don't have the world to spend, =
but
where in quality are we talking? Is skutt the chevy or volkswagon or yugo =
to
the shimpo/L=26L/crucible/olympic/paragon-cadillac (wouldn't want one of =
those
anyway)?? Who would be the volvo or BMW?? (Not that I want one of those =
either,
you understand) I just want a standard =22workhorse=22 type of kiln with a =
good
reputation for dependability and reliability. Are there any I haven't
mentioned??
But hey, I drive a Subaru and a Nissan. =3B )

Most of the places I fire at here in this area use skutts, but the PNCA has
paragon and crucibles with skutt computer controllers mounted to the wall. =
Now
I'm really confused=21

Hi Michelle,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth.....I am a High School ceramics teacher. We
a Skutt 1227 w/computerized controls. I fire it
unmercifully......unload/reload/fire,fire,fire. It just keeps going and going. I
have been very impressed by its performance and added one to my own studio.

My friend Sheri Sweigard (who did the Cleopatra ad for Skutt) swears by them, us
them for years with no problems. I have a couple myself and they're wonderful.
say they're Toyota pick-ups, like the ads with 300,000+ miles and still running.
Good luck!
