We have a new L&L Kiln, with the automatic controls. I am attempting to
blend old techniques with this new technology. Before, we would prop the lid
and leave the inspection plugs out. When we switched to "high", we would
then drop the lid, insert the plugs and wait for the sitter to trip.
With the new automatic controls, we just start the thing, but when should we
"not prop" the lid, and insert the plugs when firing (particularly) green
ware.
There should be some temperature when venting would not be needed, and thus
we can close her up safely then.
