Amy Parker, your response to the glaze help post was over-reactive, rude
and unnecessary.
The original question was for TILE glazes.
If we, clayarters, jump down the throat of some one that posts a response
in that manner, our group is doomed to rehash the same thoughts. No new
blood will want to risk posting a question, or response. .......we all
lose.
Lead, manganese, cadmium, chromium, barium and even URANIUM, ALL have a
place if responsibly used.
NOT all potters make functional ware !! Ceramic sculpture, tiles, etc are
a large realm of clay creativity. Cone 10 with earth tones and cobalt
blues are only one part of a large community of clay workers.
I think you owe Antoinette an apology.

I don't want to increase any firefight that might be going on - I
can see both points that have been made here. On the one hand, sure if
someone wants to use toxic materials in their non-functional work, fine.
BUT when someone posts that recipe to the public PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
indicate that it is not food safe!
It has been mentioned several times in recent weeks how toxic
recipies lose their warnings as they get passed from person to person. Lets
not continue this habit. I had missed the original post - the response with
the recipe had no indication that it was for non-functional ware only. I
realize that most people on this list are aware of the dangers that glaze
material can present - there are many who don't. We each have a
responsibility when we post glazes to CLEARLY indicate if they are for use
with functional wares or not. Try to provide as much information as
possible - even (gasp!) have it tested.
Lets not make this problem worse.
