several thoughts while reading clayart today.
1.
coat a kiln with albany slip..? i think not.
i have done a ton a research and spent a great deal to find
out what coatings work best with salt.
after a long article in ceramics monthly, posts to this
list and about 200 emails i still find that itc 100 works and works
and works....it is cheap at any level......if you can extend the
life of your kiln by 4 times...that is gas, salt, electric, whatever...
why not give it a try.? and guess what? it makes the kiln give
you better pots.............use it on the kiln, posts, shelves.
use a proven product......spend a buck, get good results...

2. and barney...........
geez, you have been instructed by kevin caufield, the master....and
your clay is slipping off............shame on you.
dry the batt and the clay.......water is the only problem.
and, remember, use your legs.....the big elbow, on the big knee......
shoot, right to the center. (and you are a strong guy, you may be pushing
past center.)

3. trowel eze, is without question, the best cement i have ever
used to repair kilns. i can put that stuff on a broken brick, let
it dry over night.......fire that brick in the door of my kiln, and you
cannot seperate the brick......great stuff.

so, been working on the old engebretson house at the farm.....put
in new floor joices......man, what an ick job. 125 years of crap falling
in my eyes, ears, and face. and a skunk blew off in there the other
day....my life as a contractor is hell right now.
but, the gang at hay creek will love not falling through the floor. (now
all new plastic sewer pipe and water pipe......don't want to confuse those.)

we have all the stuff piled up to build the mini cho cho train kiln.
it will be a cute little devil. much better than the one tony clennell
built in canada......(you remember tony, the ex writer.)
kurt has drawn the plans about 597 times.........you should see
his scratch outs.......erases right through the paper...we had to
order a new ream of quarter inch graph paper for him.
but, man is he smiling a great deal.....having a ball.

we will send reports from the farm about the building.....have the
modem installed and the computer ready to go from hay creek.

best to you all......and make great summer pots.
that is the point of this list.......pots. (well, or clay like objects,
tiles, things*.)
