I am mixing a raku glaze that calls for black copper oxide. I don't have
any and have not been able to find any info about how and if it can be
substituted. If any one has any ideas, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

Hello Elizabeth,

James Chappell in The Potter's Complete Book of Clay and Glazes suggests 1
part black copper oxide for 2 parts copper carbonate.

Try Copper Carbonate and increase the quantity by about 25 percent, it's
weaker but I find it more controllable.

> Dear Elizabeth

You can, of course, use copper carbonate. To compensate for the CO2 you
multiply the amount of black copper oxide by approx 1.5

Alternatively you put the copper carb in a bowl and turn it into black
copper by firing it to red heat.

Hope this helps
