Hello All!
I took a look through the archives and did not find any discussion about
slides and/or photo enclosures to send to galleries. I have located a
kind soul who is willing to give me a crash course on photographing my
work. He used to instruct future architects on how to photograph their
models. Anyhow, are there any opinions out their about taking your own
slides of work or having a professional do it? So far the opinions I have
heard are split right down the middle! Thanks! Kim Severance

Hi Kim,

We did discuss this topic a few months ago (? -- lose track of
time,date,etc.!). I am a sculptor and take slides of all my work before it
leaves the studio. It's not difficult given that you have a good camera,
tripod, lights and a smidgen of knowledge. If your friend will give you a
"crash course", that should more than suffice.
Professional shots are awfully costly (I get some done for postcards, etc.
but rarely). It'll just take a little testing (especially backgrounds --
you'll have to find what's right for your work). I have 4 different pieces
of fabric ranging from "natural" canvas to a "wheaty" tan to olive green to
dark blue, and change them when appropriate to the piece.
Good luck,
Karen in Sonoma

Do it yourself---save lots of $!! You will be surprised at how well you will
photograph your work! I'm not a photo.pro!-but, I do my own and have good
results for mag/newspaper/brochure and web photos! I don't even use
lighting-just -photo-out-of-doors-
