At our school they have plywood =22rings=22 to cover the top rim of =
firebrick while
loading and unloading. The kilns look terrific. It's not really a ring=3B =
it's a
multi-sided piece of plywood just slightly larger in dimension than the
firebrick itself. The rings hang on a nail in the wall when not in use.
I have a sheet of plywood on the sawhorses in the barn and need to cut one =
for
my kiln...
As for back strain, other than being tall enough to reach the bottom shelf
without standing on tiptoes, I don't have any advice :-)

Subject: Pointers on Loading Kilns
----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Dear Friends:
As you know, people have difficulty loading top-loading kilns. They
damage the top rim of firebrick by leaning into the kiln.
Is there a technique to loading this type of kiln without back strain
and without damaging firebricks? I'm thinking in particular of 10 and
12 sided kilns.
Thanks,
Arnold Howard
