tailgate sale

I like the idea of a tailgate sale! Also, what about setting up at the side
of the road, near the beach, every weekend? Put a sign up: Fresh Pottery!

Put a little ad in the paper, be so regular you can be counted on, and it
might work.

My mom also suggested farmers markets. Just haul out a dozen bowls, a dozen
vases, put some tomatoes in the bowls, some flowers in the vases, and there
you have it.

I might try some of this.

Love the idea of tailgate sales. Here in Louisiana, during shrimp season,
people are found in numerous locations selling shrimp out of ice chests in =
the
back of trucks and/or sitting on the ground. Maybe that is common elsewhere
near coasts=3B I don't know. Anyway, some years ago, the state, under =
pressure
from supermarkets and such, decided to see if these sources produced fresh, =
i.e.
=22safe=22 seafood, and spot tested quite a few. The results--they were =
fresher
than that in the supermarkets=21

You might have a problem with setting up on roadside here in some areas
of Florida. I help with a Pet Rescue group and they lost their building.
They have the permission of the owner of a piece of property and they
have a license so they sell beabies and have yard sales but they have
been questioned by police.

They were having yard sales at a members house in the city and a
comp-laint was lodged because you're only allowed two yards sales a
year. They clamp down on signs and streetside marketing, although it
does go on.

Here in Alberta we like to "do" Farmers Markets. We have one of the largest
farmers markets in western Canada within 10 minutes of our home. Every Saturday
morning at 6:30 am we get up, load up the 1/2 ton and head to the market. Alot
of city folks drive that 45 minutes to the country to by fresh produce and
pots. Our market runs from the first week in June till the first week in Oct.
We make approx. 1/3 of our income from this market. It only goes till noon , so
you have a small time committment for a large chunk of cash. An average day
brings in around $1000.00. You can also do advertising for your studio at the
same time and still get Saturday afternoon off!

In California, one is obligated to charge sales tax, and also produce a
business license, after the second time around! I guess that's why many
tailgate vendors don't set up in the same town more than twice in a year's
time, in this state.
