weathered bronze green glaze

Dear all:
I wrote to Pete Pinnell about the problems with this glaze - pinholing,
running etc and about his source of strontium. Here is his reply:

"I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the problem is the strontium. Ever
since the powdered strontium was replaced with a slightly granular
version, none of my strontium containing glazes has worked well. The
granular strontium definitely causes pinholing. It may also be
contributing to running- I used to use this at cone ten and never had any
running. To the contrary, I often layered this glaze thickly over a
clear gloss to get a blushed effect and even then I had no running.

I spoke to my supplier this last winter about this, and she said that she
has been unable to get the powdered strontium she used to carry. She did
an extensive search and has now found a tentative supply for powdered,
and some tests that a potter did for her look good. My supplier is Anne
Bracker at Bracker Ceramic Supply in Lawrence Kansas. Her number is
(785) 841-4750.

We're going to be ordering more materials in July, and I'll be getting
some then. Write me again late in July and I'll let you know how it
works for me."

Good luck to all you WBG guys out there from Sharon

Hi Sharon,
Did you ever get hold of the powdered strontium and how did it
work? Would be great if you could let us know the results.

Thanks in advance.

I get strontium from Evans Ceramics Supplier in Wichita, KS. Don, the
owner, has never said anything about having trouble getting it. Connie
