kiln building workshop

There are still a couple of openings in this workshop. If interested,
respond soon as I am leaving in week or two to be gone for three weeks.

Joseph Bennion and Kevin Crowe will lead a kiln building workshop
in Spring City, Utah from August 9th throug 20th. We will be
constructing a two chamber climbing kiln intended for wood firing. The
class will be limited to 6-8 participants. The focus will be on hands
on construction experience and discussions of kiln design. There will
not be a firing with this workshop but one will be planned for the
summer of 2000.
Kevin has led several successful kiln building workshops using this
kiln design. I taught kiln design and construction at Brigham Young
University in the 1980's. We have taught several workshops together in
the past and have a good working relationship. In addition to the
above mentioned technical content we will hold discussions about the
philosophical, spiritual and practical aspects of the potter's craft
as we have experienced them.
The fee for the workshop is $350 and does not include housing or
meals. There are ample housing and food services in the Spring City
area. There is also plenty of National Forest camping in the mountains
nearby. As mentioned class size is limited. Space will be reserved
when your non refund-able $50 deposit check is received. The balance
is due two weeks before the class starts. If full payment is not in by
that time your space will be given to the first person on the waiting
list.
Make checks payable to Horseshoe Mountain Pottery and mail them to:

Kiln Building Workshop in Santa Fe! July 10 and 11th.

Larry Fielder will be teaching an electric kiln building workshop at my
spacious studio in Santa Fe NM on July 10 and 11th.

Larry has been building kilns since 1985, and teaching nearly as long. He
taught a workshop at my studio last year and received rave reviews. The
course includes a 130 page set of kiln building notes with kiln designs,
wiring information, and all sources for materials. There are plans for a
front loader, a top loader or a bell type kiln. I build my own bell kiln
last year that is 6 ft long by 3 ft wide.

Cost of the workshop is $350 and lunches are included both days.

Santa Fe is a beautiful town with over 200 galleries situated against the
Sangre de Cristo Mountains at 7000 ft. Summers are beautiful with highs in
the low 90s and cool nights. There is always plenty to see and do here.

Access is easiest through Albuquerque, about 1 hours to the south, altho
Frontier Airlines does fly into SF through Denver.

Please contact me with any questions.

Sounds good, John. But not everyone knows
where your studio is. Give an address, eh?

Thank you Dannon. My mistake!

I am having the workshop at my studio in Spruce Pine, North Carolina which
is 3 miles from Penland NC.

I have a website listing all the workshops coming up this summer and fall:

http://www.johnbrittpottery.com/wks.htm

They include firing, glaze chemistry and kiln building.

Thanks again Dannon,
