hvlp spray gun

The hvlp spray gun that I think Joyce is referring to in her post is
currently on sale at Harbor Freight. $39.00 down from $59.00. I too
bought mine as a result of working at Coleman's Studio. It's the best
glaze sprayer I've ever used for the price. ( I do take the screen out
of the glaze hopper)

We recently researched the spray gun field and purchased a DeViliblis HVLP
Gravity Feed spray gun.

This spray gun has totally changed my ideas of spraying, and I have
wondered why I have used the cheaper guns for years with not so great
results. Sure they worked, albeit poorly and intermittantly, but I spent an
inordinate amount of time cleaning them, replacing parts, etc..

This new DeViliblis is fabulous. Exquisite control, excellent coverage,
lightweight and easy to use. Runs best at about 23 # of air. Easy to clean,
disassemble, and the inner workings, IMHO, are bomb proof.

Cost was about $180.00, but has saved a rather large project for a New York
design store. Well worth the price.

Yep, I'm having a bad day with the archives. I signed in and still am unable to successfully search the archives. So, I hope you don't mind if a ask the question.

I remember in the past there has been a discussion about a Harbor Freight HVLP spray gun. I think some people have used it and like it. (I know, you get what you pay for) Is it ITEM 43430-0VGA? Harbor is having a sale and this model is supposedly normally 39.99 and now is 29.99.

If this is the model others have used, I will buy it. Is here anything else I need to buy to go with this, like the filters? If I buy it, I guess my next step will be to buy a compressor!

Thanks

where I am a bit upset. I was up until 3am nursing the first glaze firing in my new (this was the 6th firing) L&L kiln. A 500 degree/hr ramp was part of what I programmed, but the kiln never went faster than 358 degrees/hr.

This is one I have used a lot in the past. I liked it pretty well,
particularly the top feed with a see -thru tank. It's great if you have
an air compressor with a storage tank. It you don't have that, but are
trying to get by on one of those small pancake types , forget it, even
the HVLP types will require to much air volume for those little
compressors.

An alternative for those looking for somehitn that works and is cheap is
the Harbor Freight Turbine HVLP system. It is a turbine compressor, and
is a complete unit.Very compact, very lightweight, comes with spray gun
and hose. I have one of these now, and I give it a serious workout. When
I bought mine a while back it was right at $100 for the whole setup. I
haven't checked to see if it is still available, but the SKU # for it is
44677 if you want to check. Ask the clerk to find it for you. I suspect
they still sell this unit.

If you get the turbine sprayed, get at least a couple of extra canisters
if you can, or heck, even get the extra guns too. They are dirt cheap,
and it's really handy when you are mixing and matching glazes.

Shula,
I spray everything I make so that I can get the overlap exactly like I
want it (http://www.curiouslayman.com/2008/07/recent-work.html). I've
tried several guns and most of the cheaper ones (which I use) are about
the same. Just make sure that you get one with the right size nozzle. My
experience says that the one you are looking at is too small. For my
glazes at least, 2.0 mm is about perfect. That one is 0.054 inches,
which is roughly 1.3 mm

Here is the setup I use ($29.95):
http://www.grizzly.com/products/Deluxe-Spray-Gun-Plastic-Cup/H5528

Note that it comes with a 1.4 mm nozzle, but you can buy the larger one:
http://www.grizzly.com/products/Spray-Gun-Tip-2mm/H7798

You will not want to use the filter as it is made for thinner paint and
will clog very rapidly.
