Chris,
To make a clear glaze opaque, you would add something called (not
surprisingly) an opacifier. Get any good book on glazes and look up the
chapter on opacifiers. It will tell you that there are a number of
different ways to opacify a glaze by adding tin oxide, bone ash,
compounds of zirconium or titanium, and maybe some more. Get some of
each of the things mentioned, add them to your clear glaze in 1%
increments up to 5% and test them all. When you get those out of your
kiln, you'll have a choice of several opaque burgundy glazes, and maybe
some that are opaque and some other color.
Happy testing!
