You can get Cushing's Handbook directly from Val Cushing,
either by calling (an Alfred, N.Y., number, listed) or
by email: cushingve@infoblvd.net and asking for it.
They'll tell you how much it is (about $24 American) and
ship it to you. It really is a treasure, very useful.
Val is still in Europe, been in England & environs
since April doing a visiting artist thing,
but should be back in a couple of weeks.

Friends,
Carol Tripp's post was very kind and complimentary but Val Cushing's Handbook
is available only directly through him. It is not sold in any other stores
including The Potters Shop. (I did act as a go-between to facilitate Carol
being able to get the book a few months ago when delivery time was critical)
A few years ago I did distribute the book but that is no longer the case as
Val has decided to handle all sales himself.

Does anybody have an email address where one could order?
This person has two pages from it on her site. The second one has the
scull and crossbones, snakes, lightningbolts for bad things on it that I
like.

Recently came across an article in the archives that made a reference to
"Cushing's Handbook". Searched on Amazon but couldn't find it. It may be
out print, but would appreciate someone responding that knows the "complete"
title name.
Anyone?
TIA

Val Cushings handbook is a wonderful compilation of clay, glaze, general
pottery making and background information that Val put together over his
years teaching at Alfred. Definitely worth owning and at this point a
classic. I believe he is retired from the Ceramics College, but still lives
in Alfred. My copy is third edition (1994) and I think you can buy one by
contacting Val directly. I don't have his email, but address and phone are:

Wayne,
You may have your information already because I read ClayArt posts in
digest form.
I purchased Cushing's handbook a few years ago. It is full of great
information. I think you will need to order it from Val Cushing.
Here's ordering information from Dannon Rhudy that I found in the
archives:

Hi Wayne,
A year ago, in one of our workshops, a question came up about information
that could be found in Val Cushing's Handbook.
I called Alfred's Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art who
said it could be purchased at the Cushing's favorite grocery store. (Val
and his wife thought the campus bookstore charged too much.)
I called Kinsfield National Grocery in Alfred, NY, at 607 587-8840 who
sold me the handbook for $22 plus $5 shipping (total of $27).
I hope this info is still current and that it helps.
