different colour nickel oxide

I have recently had to buy some more Nickel oxide. Up to now it has
always been black in colour. The latest supply is an earth colour,
something like milk chocolate.
Hamer talks of two differently coloured forms of NiO2, black and
greenish grey. He says both forms are 99% pure nickel oxide and that the
trace elements making up the 1% influence the colour of the nickel oxide
powder but do not make any difference to the use of the material as a
glaze colourant.
I would appreciate hearing of other potters experience. Would you expect
the 'milk chocolate' coloured nickel oxide to have a different colouring
effect to the black nickel oxide?
The glaze that I use with nickel oxide only contains 1%.

Dear David,
Seems like it could be rutile you have been given.I
suggest you make up a small test batch of your original receipe and use this
material as the nickel, you will easily know from your result whether or not
it is nickle.
