In answer to the problem someone mentioned about the pots loosening while
trimming:
I find that sometimes, when I am trimming, then stop the wheel for some
reason, the arms holding the pot move away from the pot. Figure it has to do
with some really deep, physics, momentum thing. Anyway, every time I stop the
wheel, I retighten the grip, just a tad, to make sure the pads are still
connecting with the edges of the pot. Then continue on my merry way, creating
piles of scraps on plastic sheets on the floor. No, Bill from Persimmon Hill,
I have never gotten around to making the collector you described to me. And I
should, but that's another story.

Lynne- you are forgiven- even I sometimes dont do what I say.
To All-- Giffen grips come in right-hand and left-hand versions. It depends
on whether you turn your wheel clockwise or counterclockwise. If you have
the wrong one- it will loosen instead of tighten.
The grip I have, I got for a ridiculously low price, in its original
packing, at a Shipping surplus store- when I got it home- I found it was
for clockwise turning, but I work the other way. No biggie, I got in touch
wth the makers- they thought it was funny- and sent me the replacement
base, which is where the "Handedness" is established. NO CHARGE !- I
returned the changed- out base with my thanks and great appreciation.
The collector Lynne mentioned is a taller replacement for the ring on my
CI wheel- it catches scrap, and does NOT rub the grip, which is just a
touch too large for the original ring.
Bill- Still on Persimmon Hill- but with a lack of nerves to the interossii
muscles in my right hand (No more throwing ).

Most Giffin Grips are meant to be used with the wheel rotating
counter-clockwise; although they do make some for clockwise rotation. If
your Grip is loosening during use you might try reversing the direction
of your wheel during trimming. The problem just may go away.

Actually, when I ordered my Grip new, I ordered a left-handed one (as
I am lefty and throw clockwise). The thing keeps unwinding, so I
thought they may have sent me a righty by mistake. I checked it
against someone else's in the studio and indeed, I have a left handed
one. Still unwinds though. Don't know quite what to do about it.
