Hey everybody,

I'm writing for a friend who doesn't have access to this list but would
appreciate help.
Here's her dilemma, in her own words:

Recipe for Marie Woo Blue cone 10, reduction (possibly from Hyper Glaze llX =
or
Val Cushing's book)

Potash feldspar 166.4
Silica 106.8
OM4 Ball clay 51.6
Whiting 71.2
Bentonite 4.00

FE0 16.
Rutile 16

(note: not the Woo Blue of the 1970s)

This glaze used to be shiny, dark blue, flashes of yellow and red where =
thick.
Nice depth. Have used Custer feldspar consistently. Updraft kiln, reduction.

Now the glaze is not shiny, has greyed surface, no red/yellow highlights.

Can anyone suggest modifications or point out something that might cause the
above.

Please reply to Connie mailto:DONOS1=40aol.com

or this list, and I will forward replies to her.

Thanks,

Andy Karp

I've used a similar glaze a lot and the most variable factor in the finish
is the firing. Poor reduction can leave this glaze (and other rutile types )
opaque and tanish..... Try that for a start, Ben
