Steve -
While cleaning out the old smoker, I have too contemplated the use of
the briquette's ash from my brinkman.

I've found that charcoal briquette's can contain two and up to six
basic ingredients:

(1) coarse ground lump hardwood charcoal which is nearly pure carbon,
(2) raw hardwood sawdust of raw wood particles,
(3) white specks of sodium nitrate for quicker lighting,
(4) anthracite coal which adds to charcoal's heat-producing ability
(it burns without smoking),
(5) powdered limestone for its whitening effect to produce a gray ash,
(6) liquid cornstarch paste which glues these powdered and granular
products together.
