For what it's worth, iron oxide (and a number of other oxides), particularly
in solution, run "acidic."
One of the very best things I know of to clean oxides from hands, clothing,
brushes, buckets, and (YES!) even plumbing is ordinary BAKING SODA (cheap!
cheap!).
Try it -- you'll like it!
