Recently my husband was offered a two year job assignment in Kobe, Japan and=
I
am wondering if any one on this list knows of classes in the Kobe region =
where I
might be able to continue doing pottery. I know that taking all my pottery
stuff is out of the question, but gosh I just got things all set up. We are
trying to get information together so that we can make an informed decision
prior to his accepting the assignment. Any information or contacts will be
greatly appreciated. TIA Pam in WI
just got back from taking Ron Roy's class, now I am really ready to start
testing=21

I am in the Tokyo area so have no contacts in the Kobe area, but I am sure
someone will contact you. But that you should be in any doubt about being
able to keep up with potting to say nothing about learning from a Japanese
potter at his studio surprises me. If you are worried about the language,
don't be. You would be surprised at many English words are used, how much
English people can speak, and how quickly you will pick up the necessary
Japanese vocabulary. Don't hesitate. Come! You will love it. The
experience will be incredible. Someone from your husband's company will
help put you in touch with some potters. Visit them, talk to them, see
their work, watch them throwing, help with a firing. Then you will be able
to find just the right potter to work with and the right potter who will
want to take you on as a committed learner. It's a whole different and new
world over.
