Hail! People of Clay.

Just convinced my brother to shoot some digital photos of the great old
treadle wheel in the Seagrove Pottery center. It is a standing treadle
made out of what ever came to hand. A wonderful example of "high tec
low tec". I'm working on memory here (and that's always dangerous in my
case...) but I believe the potter that made and used the wheel was Frank
Moon. He used what looks like "old barn" wood, 2x4's and 4x4's to build
both the wheel and ball opener. The fly wheel is a steel hoop with a
wood center and the shaft is a bent metal rod!

I've found a great metal fabricator that will build the 1" X 36" shafts
with cams for 50.00 and have four of them waiting for me to get off my
bum and get started. Will try making a couple of Leach style and then
two others that are "standing" wheels. I like doing it standing up but
that's a whole "nother" subject isn't it.
