I glanced at that post and deleted it as fast as I could.

You don't mind burning leaves, newspaper, etc for raku but the alcohol
scares you???? You must fire with some frightening people.

The issue I believe with the girl was so tragically burned was that the
combustible was added to a hot, yet not burning, bed/can of combustible.
This set up the possibility for a flash fire to ignite. I am not doing the
same thing and would not do it if I thought it was any more dangerous than a
campfire, pulling 1800F pots from a kiln, or smoking cigarrettes for that
matter.

I take pride in the fact that I am extremely careful when I do this so
please don't shoot this method down so easily. Ben

Alcohol reduction is a unique process for reduction of ceramic glazes.
Alcohol is safe, it's the folks that use it carelessly that get hurt.

I have no experience in using alcohol with the raku process, but find it
interesting. I have used flammable liquids with reduction, but usually
these are already in the reduction chamber, typically in rags soaked in
such liquid. I feel apprehensive about applying flammable liquid directly
to a piece, as fire can easily travel up the stream of the liquid to the
source (which I would be holding!).

I read the previous posts, and it sounds like this is what people are
doing so as to specifically mark their piece with alcohol.
Can those who are experienced post some safety tips for this application?

Thanks

Jocelyn
