Sometimes reliably glazed ware can still run. The glaze leaves big pock =
holes
in the soft brick (
if the bottom of your kiln has soft brick as the one I work with does). I =
can't
imagine trying to
get glaze off the bottom of the kiln floor even with kiln wash on it. I =
figure
it is a lot easier to be
able to take the shelf out and clean it, than leaning over the kiln trying =
to
clean up the floor. I use
two half shelves on the bottom supported by one inch stilts, and never have =
to
worry about the
floor. =3CBR=3E
According to the directions I got with my new kiln at school, the cone in =
the
sitter should have
the number facing the inside of the kiln. To be honest, in the past, I =
don't
think I was aware of
that and for years put the cone in, and didn't pay any attention to which
direction the number was
facing, so I don't think it is critical.
