Hey!

Does anyone have any idea as to the history of the treadle potters wheel
ultimately adapted by Leach? I've checked Encarta and run a couple of web
searches...nothing. I have seen a picture that implies it was in use before
the turn of the 20th century? Any ideas or suggestions for history
research?

TIA

Try looking up old german sources. I believe that southern american potters
used standing treadle wheels a lot, and they were often decended from
german immigrants.

Well that answers something about my "Scotch Friction Wheel ".
When I got hold of it ,it was set up as a stand up wheel. It was
first used by a German Potter last century. All others i had used
had a seat.
I put a motorbike saddle on mine so i could sit down while
centring & stand up when throwing tall pots.
