Wish I could remember the artist's name who displayed at the ACC Fair this
past weekend: She did sculptural animals, and had little ones she called
something like "kiln god toys". Her text explaining their meaning said, in
effect, that the kiln gods we make as potters to place on the kiln, are
"toys" for the kiln gods. They play with these instead of messing around with
the wares we have in the kiln, thus protecting the firing from their
mischief. Thailand has a kiln god festival (they had one here at the Asian
Art Museum a few years back).

Hi Bonita

Just to say the Tozan kiln has its kiln gods and rituals too and we
can't do without them!

You can see how the Tozan firing is doing as pictures are being
downloaded every day now on our site at www.tozan.bc.ca.

Regards from Maureen....Tozan groupie!

As far as I learned the greeks were really big on the kiln gods back in b.c
times to ensure a safe firing
and...
Just a little side note on kiln gods, I was told that if the people loading
the kiln had enough time to build a kiln god it would be a good firing
because they weren't rushing
