tile - preventing warping

Brian - I dry flat tile between two layers of plasterboard (gypsum board,
drywall). Frank Giorgini's book, Handmade Tile suggests this as a way of
preventing warping. I usually leave it covered for a day or so and slowly
loosen the plastic dry slowly. Frank dries relief tile flat on top of
plasterboard with or without plastic loosely over the top - you should see
how flat his tiles are! Some clays will flatten as they reach maturation
in the kiln - I'm using a crazy clay now that warps if it is underfired by
even a half a cone but at the proper temperature flattens right out! I've
even re-fired some warped ones (originally fired at the bottom of the kiln,
where it's cooler) and they went flat again. This may work on hard clay
bodies better than terra cotta.

G"Day Deborah,

Many thanks for the tile information.

You mention "Frank GIORGINI'S" book "Handmade Tile" is it worth buying ??

Over the past month I have become interested in Tile Making and can see some
posibilities. Are there other books on the subject? I have looked in our
local Library but while tiles are mentioned within pottery books there is
nothing of a specialised
nature.

Are you a specialist tile maker ?

Look forward to your reply,

Kind regards,,, Brian C..
