heavy duty kiln elements for raku

Just want to share that for some time we have been doing raku in a fifty
year old electric kiln. Of course it isn't as quick as gas but we had it
here so we used it. It had gotten to where it needed new elements and
rather than order the standard ones from the manufacturer, I contacted Chris
at Euclids to see about getting some heavier duty elements.

He sent me the heavy duty ones and they have cut my firing time in half.
They were really not any more expensive than those form the manufacturer
either. Thanks, Chris.

Hi Lori!

The type elements you got from Euclid are normally refered to "2400 degree
Fahrenheit elements. As you said they are normally only $5 to $10 above the
regular ones. There is still another type of element available called APM.
These are even better but much more expensive, approximately 5 times the
cost of teh regular one. Both of them you can obtain from almost every kiln
manufacturer.

Did you compare the performance of the new Euclids elements with new
elements from the kiln manufacturer? How did you do that?

Hi John,

Yes, I did compare the elements from Euclid's with those the manufacturer
has
sent in the past.. If I ordered new ones from them today for that kiln, they
would just send me a repeat of what they had sent before because that is the
standard element for that kiln. That is what they carry for that kiln
model. With using it for raku and it being 50 years old, we have changed
elements on it before. Even with new elements from the manufacturer, it
has never fired as quickly as it does with these from Euclid's. They are
even look different. These from Euclid's have a tighter and what appears to
be a thicker coil then the ones from the manufacturer but still fit in the
kiln groves perfectly. With knowing the model number, inner dimensions
and number of coils the kiln used, Euclid's made elements to fit. As I
said,
they were not much more costly than those from the manufacturer.
