UVAPAPA (sixteenth annual) is a Raku firing weekend gathering of
potters, artists and friends (more than 200) at Escuela in Villa Grove,
Colorado located on highway US 285 about halfway from Denver to Santa
Fe. This event is held every year on the weekend following Labor Day.
To participate bring yourself, bisqued raku pieces, camping gear and
provisions for the weekend, September 10, 11 and 12.
Please, no dogs!
There is a potluck on Saturday night at 6 pm ... for the rest of the
weekend your meals are yours to provide.
Resources available on site include latte, cappuccino and espresso
drinks, Saturday breakfast for a fee and on Sunday morning french toast
provided free by Amber (one of your hosts).
Resources available in Villa Grove include a deli open till 3 pm, a
liquor store, a gas station (gas only) and other shops. There is also
access to Valley View Hot Springs, about 12 miles from Villa Grove. If
you plan to go to the hot springs bring a towel, sunscreen, an optional
suit and $10.
Some bisqued pieces will be availble for a small donation (Clay donated
by Mile Hi Ceramics), Event T shirts will be available for sale, and
glazes (donated by Laguna Clay Co.) will be available. Feel free to
share some of your own glaze(s).
Additional features of the weekend include music by John Stone on
Saturday afternoon, by the Earthmen Saturday night and by CB Jazz on
Sunday. On Saturday night there will be appearance by special guest,
Mr. Bones and a fireworks show by Neil Seitz.
UVAPAPA is solely supported by the sale of T shirts, bisqued ware and
donations. Please do what you can.
