HI :)
Would those of you who have the time mind sending me an email recommending
two or three good books for total novices? I have a wheel and kiln and
kiln furniture and glaze and even the clay :) ...'tis a long story on why
someone who has absolutely no training has the equipment and supplies and I
shan't bore you. However, I cannot take lessons at this point because I
live in a lobstering/fishing village and there are no studios nearby.

I would like to have a small list of really good, basic books that I can
ask the Library to get for me from the city Library.

I appreciate any help you may be able to provide.

Judy: Make your appeal to E. Priddy. I
think she could supply a vidio tape that
would do well to launch your career.

The Complete Potter's Companion by Tony Birks is an excellent book for a
beginner and worth buying for yourself. It covers wheel work, handbuilding,
glazing, techniques of decorating and firing. There are lots of clear
colour photographs both illustrating techniques and showing quality
examples. What is more the quality of the paper used and format of the book
means you can happily take it into the studio. Clay fingerprints will just
wipe off!
