FUNCTIONAL STONEWARE / SINGLE - FIRING
Steven Hill Workshop
Sept 27 - Oct 2, 1999

This intensive 6-day workshop will offer 6 hours of instruction each day,
with extended access offered to the studio. We will focus on thrown and
altered pitchers for 3 solid days, exploring different possibilities for
form, spouts, and handles. We will also look at how other potters have solved
the problems associated with making successful pouring vessels.

On day 4 we will raw glaze pots and load our 70 cu. ft. Geil car kiln. Day 5
will include firing and other demonstrations and finally on Saturday we will
unload the kiln and critique the pots. Interspersed with all of this will be
lectures on the technical aspects of single-firing, including clay bodies,
glazes, construction, and firing techniques. This class is a great way to
jump-start your technical skills and develop ideas. Our June single-firing
workshop had 16 potters from FL, NC, MY, IN, WI, MI, and MO working nearly
around the clock for 6 days.

Cost: $360, including firing, glazes, and the first 25# of clay.
We would be happy to send you information on local lodging, directions to the
studio, and more details about the class.
