again... As I remember from my first class in
ceramics, there was a movie we watched, where Maria
Martinez was doing just that... Somebody else was
narrating.... Any guru jump in and let me know Is this
the way or is this just the only way I have happened
to see it, or is there something extra in Jerry's
instructions...

Ajni, or something like that....

vual7, thanks for writing back!! I'm glad to know I'm doing it right! And
thanks everyone actually I'm learning a lot... Eschew "guru," (it seems
almost derogatory doesn't it)? is my thought for the day.

Well, now I'm wondering what else I don't know yet that everyone else knows
... thanks for the recycling tips.

Help me and the other lamers out!!

Tell us... What are those little things that save time and/or money that
everyone should know?

I'm just back from not potting for a few years and trying to make a comeback
... in fact trying to start a business (yep another fool with mud on his
face) ... what?

I already have a couple canvas bags recycling my clay thank you very much it
works pretty good, better than slopping it on bats, on the little test bag
about 25 lbs, a crust developed on the canvas and I had to be careful to not
get it mixed in with the good stuff. Am I doing it right? I'm hanging them in
the shade. I hope you all aren't pulling my leg about this even if you are
its working!

I don't have a pug mill I guess that's one tip hmm? Buy a pugmill? yeah I can
afford that! I think a clay mixer would probably work as well for me, I don't
mind wedging.

So the recycling tips are working for me, I have my plastic garbage cans (Are
they cans if they're made of plastic?) almost empty after waiting 5 years
filled to the top. If aging makes clay better I'm going have some good clay.
Maybe a half or three quarter ton of clay being recycled.

You peoples with clay mixers and pug mills? Why cant you mix your own clays
and avoid the manufacturers all together? I have made small batches, 20
gallons of casting slip and throwing porcelains. I guess my recipes are old,
but they worked great, all of em. I aged the porcelain as slip in the barrel
and used it for casting sculptures and throwing. All one clay formula. It did
tend to slump a bit above cone ten.

I use Conrad's advanced ceramics manual I don't understand the technical
stuff that much but the recipes are good. He never mentioned how to burnish
though =P

And ... if any experts on Asian pottery or antiquities could help me identify
a couple of pieces of factory porcelain reported to be 300 years or older by
a Tai Chi Master. Please Take a Look! There is a saucer and a small plate,
the pattern is a silver plated or enameled dragon across the plate with large
characters in the middle of the plate there is a mark on the saucer it
doesn't look like Ming markings in fact the characters are RED! And there's
only two of em. None of my reference material has any thing like them except
the red ming plates with green dragons seem similar. Take a look or ask a
friend? I'm interested in finding a good home for these plates if they are
valuable and I think they are. So far, they have "stumped the Band".HREF="http://crazyotter.com/mystery/mystery.htm

click the blue text or paste it in to your browser to see the saucer, plate
and the mark on the back.

Thanks in advance
