tin glaze (tinfoil recycling)

Hi Martin!

I appreciate your enthusiasm to recycle "tin foil." Unfortunately, this
material is mostly alumina-based, which would not lend itself to ceramic
glazes.

I'm supposing that in your country, "tin foil" is the same stuff as "aluminum
foil" here in the States. Some time ago, according to my 94-year-old
grandfather, there was a true tin foil. Since tin is now a rare natural
substance, aluminum is now used in its stead.

Best way to recycle it is to find an aluminum scrapyard. Otherwise, it's just
trash, unfortunately. Aluminum soda cans are an extremely lucrative product,
however. Here in California, one can recycle cans for about $1.10/pound (24
12-oz cans to the pound). Out here in the desert, one can find several pounds
of cans discarded by passing motorists, by any major roadside. I often spend
many moonlit nights, tonight notwithstanding, picking up this "aluminum gold!"

Best wishes!

Just finished crushing another five pounds of discarded cans!
