granite dust sludge

updated sat 2 oct 99

I now have two sources of granite dust sludge near me, one in Braintree,
Essex and the other in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, UK. Both are
from monumental masons who cut imported granites (I use the term
loosely) with large diamond saws. The sludge collects below.

The Bishop's Stortford site is very large. They use several saws and the
sludge collects in vast tanks below the saws. There is enough there to
keep all the potters in the UK going in glaze material for centuries.

The owner wants these tanks emptied. If potters don't do it he will just
arrange for his workers to take it all out and dump it. The workers
don't want to do that job :-(

I have taken what I can make use of in the foreseeable future and can
confirm that it is lovely stuff.

Is there anyone out there who could do themselves and the owner of this
firm a good turn and finish what I have started?

The name of the firm is J Day or DayStone (there are two firms in one,
one being funeral directors and the other doing fireplaces etc) The
telephone number is 01279 653 450 and the site is in Station Road,
Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. Please phone them before calling.

If you drown in a pit of first class granite sludge glaze material,
please do not blame me but I will try to attend the funeral.
No doubt a suitable head stone would be supplied by the firm themselves.

Boots and many firmly closeable buckets will be necessary, as it slops
about if you drive at over 40 mpg.

I caused quite a tail-back on the A120 homeward bound. Perhaps we need a
permanent sign which we can display in the rear window :

Sloppy Glaze Material On-Board.
