Ok... I am going to be on a business trip to St. Louis Mo. on October
the 11th. I have about 3 hours to kill after my audit and before my
plane leaves for Chicago. Is there any clay artists / galleries that
are worth seeing while I am there???
Julie in Michigan where IT IS fall....

Julie -
The St.Louis Art Museum, in Forest Park, has wonderful ceramics, including
an extraordinary collection of Mesoamerican ceramics. Mr. May, of the May
Company department stores, loved art of all kinds. He collected
extensively, and gave most of it to the museum.

Yes, CRAFT ALLIANCE!
But I can't find their address. Phone information in St. Louis and give
them a ring. Mondays is a day when many galleries are closed.

Two places come to mind immediately. Krueger Pottery in Wester Groves
and The City Museum in downtown St. Louis. You can check both out on
the web; www.kruegerpottery.com and www.citymuseum.org, ahead of time to
get details. I believe Krueger closes around 5pm on Mondays as may the
museum.
Krueger Pottery features several ceramic artists as well as glass and
wood. The city museum has a hands-on craft area on the third floor,
where along with fabric art weaving, glass blowing, etc. they have, of
course, a pottery area where you can watch potters throw, make your own
(kids love this) or just poke around and look at the pottery.
I lived in St. Louis 2 1/2 years ago bc (before clay) so these are the
only places that come to my mind. However, I am moving back in three
weeks and will be very interested in the postings on this subject as I'm
going to be looking for fellow potters in my new homeland.

If you are going to the St Louis Art Museum be sure to check what weekday it
is closed. I have been back to St Louis only one time in 16 years and forgot
to check. I went on the wrong day and missed my favorite haunt. Give the
medieval section a wave and 'reclining Pan'
a hello for me. The museum and park are left-overs from the 1904 Worlds Fair
the museum was one of the few (only) 'real' buildings built for the fair.
Drive thourgh Forest Park it is beautiful. The Washington University Art dept
is a very good one but I don't know about their ceramics dept. you might
check with them about shows they might have going on.
Craft Alliance is in the University City area.
The Central West End used to be a neat area. The Craft Alliance would be a
good source for places to go, if they don't know whats going on nobody does.
