Hello Torgeir,
I have just spoken with my supplier, Sorring, who is a distributor for =
Cerama.
His first reaction to my complain of the lime popping was that I did not dry=
my
pieces well enough before firing. Then he said that the catologue does =
include
in the description of Raku body 1154, that with firing up to 1260, there is =
the
possibility of some lime popping. I stoped him finally and said that I was
using both that body and 1109, and the problem is not sparatic. It is every
time. I informed him of the information I have gathered through the help of=
the
Clayarters.
He was totally unaware of how wide spread the lime problem is in the clays =
from
Potclays. Sorring has not received the statement that was distributed =
regarding
the above in England. I will be sending him all the information I have =
received
about this from our list. Unfortunately there is no one in their company =
who
reads English. However, he took it seriously enough to say that because =
they
stand behind their products, they were not interested in selling =
contaminated
products. He will take the case up further and asked me to also call =
Potclays
personally, and report back to him their reactions.
The statement from Potclays does include 1110 or 1109. I use 1109 and have =
only
problems.
In the catalouge from Sorring, it does state in the description of
Stent=F8js/Rakuler1154
=22Ved br=E6nding til 1260c kan kalkspringere af og til forekomme=22.
I am very interested in following up on this, to see if Potclays is =
exporting
the clay that they cannot sell in England. It seems just as Janet =
suggested,
this could well be the case.
I was tired of this clay after 3 months. What kind of problems did you have
using this clay for 15 years? Did you find the large pieces shattered?
Otherwise I have flaking and small blowouts on the walls.
More to come as I receive info.
Best regards,
Alisa in Denmark
