I want to apply ITC to my new kiln shelves, both sides, and to the
furniture before glaze firing the first time. I have applied ITC to
shelves before, not to furniture, and used a brush which is what was
recommended at that time....although I sprayed the insides of two kilns,
also as per instructions, with very thin eggshell coatings. My question
is: Have you found the brush application to be best for shelves? Mine
seemed a little gloppy. I did lightly scrape them and then dabbed
patches on where I scraped off too much. They fired fine but I'm
wondering if there's a better approach for these brand new expensive
shelves.

In the Mojave getting ready for a quick two or three days in Long Beach
to check out the fashion design institute for my granddaughter. Any art
fairs going on? I'll be alone, so pretty free to dash about wherever....

Joyce, according to Feriz at ITC the best way to apply ITC100 to kiln
shelves is by spraying. Brushing is not recommended. Also, after putting
on the 100 I find a spray coat of ITC296A makes a fine, tight surface
which I like very much. I have brushed it on (100), and found spraying is
superior. best regards, Nils

I can find plenty of information on ITC for them to sell it.. but not enought
for me to buy it. Does anyone know how to compute the amount needed to coat
a kiln.. so much per square foot or yard? Should it be paper thin or
thick?.. if so..how thick..? . What about the finish coating that Niles
talked about..anyone used it.?. and have the same type information? Also,
what kind of spray gun in required.. thanks...Jim
