Hi, to all ...after searching the Archives, (with no results) I am
wondering if there is an orange glaze for low fire.. I did see the one
at cone 6-7 orange yellow glaze.. but I'm also wondering other than a
commercial glaze if one has been formulated..I test glazes all the time,
but never needed this color before.. In Ceramics Monthly 1994 page 58..
Alec Karros shows a beautiful set of porcelain tumblers.. These are cone
6 glazes.. can anyone share a glaze that even comes close?? I'm no whiz
at chemistry..but am willing to try anything.. thanks in advance.. Also
how could an orange glaze be foodsafe?? carolyn where it's raining again
in carolina...

I have found three orange glazes in my collection of glazes I am happy
to share.

Oxidation white and orange cone l0 (this is glaze G445 John W. Conrad)

Potash Spar 45
whiting 22
silica l3
EPK 11
Rutile 6
Lithium carbonate 5

I have used this glaze on porcelain and it is beautiful. It is a
finely mottled orange over white, semi matt. It is runny so according to my
notes I used it thick only inside a bowl. I also fired it to cone 9 only
,and had no running problem. Reducing the lithium by 1% might also help.

The following two recipies are untried.

Temple Orange cone 9

Potash spar 50.5
Cornwall stone l7.9
whiting l2.6
Ball Clay 9.5
calcined Kaolin 6.3
Zinc oxide 3.2
add
Bentonite 2
red fe oxide 6.0
Rutile 4.0

Haystack Orange cone 9 oxidation or Reduction

whiting l9.5
cornwall stone l9.5
soda spar 43.8
ball clay 10.3
kaolin 6.9
Zinc oxide 3.5
red fe oxide 6.9
rutile 4.6

Happy Holidays to all, particularly to glaze testers like me. Mia in

Thnax, mia.

i have tested "temple orange" before and it turns more like transparent peach
in oxidation. it's really beautiful on porcelain. in reduction, it's not
really beautiful. i'll ask my friend to try other two glazes.

thanx again.

Hi, Some time ago I promised someone a recipe for an orange =5E10 glaze. =
I've
lost your e-mail, so I'm posting to the list, and sorry about the delay.

ANNE SMITH ORANGE =5E9-10 Reduction

Kona F-4 Spar 56.1
Neph Sye 15.4
Whiting 13.3
EPK 8.6
Barium carb 6.6 OR strontium carb. 4.95 =5BI round that up to=
5=5D
100.00
RIOx 4=25
Titanium 8=25

It's a bit drier, crystally with strontium, but very nice. Play with it-- =
too
thin, it's greenish=3B too thick, runny. Just riht, very nice.
